Referral Hijacking

What is Referral Hijacking Fraud?

Referral hijacking is a type of install hijacking

How This Works:

In referral hijacking, malicious code sends false “referral” data to a measurement or attribution provider SDK in an attempt to hijack credit for an app install. Unlike bots or behavioral anomalies, referral hijacking deals with real installs from real users, but their attribution may be compromised or hijacked.

Why AppsFlyer:

The new Google Referrer API, developed in collaboration with our partners at Google, closes this gap by authenticating referrer data and actively blocking referrer injection.

All blocked referrer hijacking activity and savings are reported in the Protect360 dashboard.
