Click hijacking

Click hijacking is a type of mobile ad fraud where bad actors try get credit for a given app install by being the last touch before an app is launched.

What is click hijacking?

Click hijacking is a type of mobile click and install fraud that sends fraudulent click reports moments after a genuine click occurs.

Usually triggered by malware, it’s commonly hidden in apps that seem completely legitimate, or apps downloaded via third-party app stores.

How does click hijacking work?

When a legitimate click is detected, the malware sends a false click report from a competing network, effectively hijacking the click and any resulting installs.

To identify click hijacking, use your raw data reports to identify sources sending clicks seconds after the previously recorded click from a competing source.
